Saint Petersburg City Day

Submitted by Visit Plus on Mon, 01/01/2024 - 04:54

City Day in St. Petersburg is celebrated in the second half of May. This is the biggest city holiday and it is celebrated on a grand scale. The full program for 2024 will only become known in mid-May, but we have already collected information about many events.

On this day, many interesting events take place in the city: open-air concerts, performances by artists, festival parades, fireworks. Interesting events are organized in different parts of the city, but the best places to visit this day are Nevsky Prospect, Palace Square, Peter and Paul Fortress and part of Vasilyevsky Island. The main condition for a successful holiday is good weather.

May 27 is most often a working day, so the main events for the public take place the following weekend. On May 27, official events take place, such as laying flowers at the monument to Peter the First (The Bronze Horseman) on Senate Square.

In 2024, May 27 falls on Monday. In 2024, most of the interesting events dedicated to the city day (it seems that) will be distributed over two pairs of weekends, May 18 - 19 and May 25 and 26.

St. Petersburg was founded by Peter the First on May 27, 1703. (It was May 16, 1703. The calendar was slightly changed later.) The beginning of construction of the Peter and Paul Fortress is considered the founding day of St. Petersburg.
